An interesting development has happened with the estate of Michael Jackson. His mother, Katherine Jackson, asked Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff if she could challenge the administrators of her son’s estate without invoking a “no contest” clause.
The clause stated that any challenges to Jackson’s estate would cause the person contesting to lose their share of the estate. Katherine Jackson stands to receive 40 percent of her son’s estate.
Judge Beckloff has allowed Katherine Jackson to challenge her son’s estate administrators without being disinherited. Ms. Jackson’s reasons for challenging were sealed and not made public, however Beckloff’s ruling indicated that several legitimate issues were raised by Ms. Jackson, including questions about whether Jackson was under the influence when he signed his will in 2002.
Jackson’s estate is estimated to be worth $500 million, however the popular singer also died heavily in debt. His estate is currently being administered by attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain.
At this time Katherine Jackson is receiving over $26,000 each month in addition to $60,000 each month to care for Jackson’s children. Ms. Jackson has permanent guardianship of her son’s children.
