Many care options are available to a family caring for an Alzheimer's patient. These include services such as Private In Home Care. In home care workers can be hired privately, but we reccomend going through a home health agency. There are many advantages to seeking their help:

1. If Medicare, Medicaid, or another third party will be footing the bills, the services must be provided through a licensed home health agency. This license or certification also means an agency has met minimal standards set by the federal government.

2. Agencies make life for the patient's family easier. The agency finds the workers, screens them, and monitors the work.

3. If an agency offers a full range of services, the care tends to be coordinated and more comprehensive.

4. Agencies have insurance in the event an accident occurs or a work is injured while on the job.

5. The agency handles all of the paperwork including social security and income tax withholding.

6. The agency replaces a worker if someone calls off sick, needs a vacation, or personal day, or does not report for work.

For the Western Pa region, we recommend Age and Dignity Consulting, LLC, who collaborate not only with families in need of assistance, but also with professionals in the senior care industry throughout Western Pa. They are prepared to make appropiate and informed suggestions about eldercare options for the senior, and are especially experienced in handling matters for Alzheimer care.
