Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can a trust avoid or reduce taxes?

A: Let’s clarify what a revocable living trust can and cannot reduce. A revocable living trust cannot reduce State of Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax or state or federal income taxes. A trust can help reduce federal estate taxes. If you die in 2008 with more than $2,000,000, the amount over $2,000,000 is subject to federal estate taxes (starting at 41%). If you are married, your living trust can include a provision that will let you and your spouse protect up to $4,000,000 estate tax free saving your loved ones over $900,000 in federal estate taxes.
